Took the car out for a spin on Sunday. 30 mins in to the ride I heard what sounded like a vibrating noise from behind the dash. The noise speeded up as i dipped the throttle. On lifting the bonnet the noise was coming from the rear of the alternator behind the plastic cover. The sound was more a whirring noise when listened to closely but was quite loud. Once back home and the engine off for a while the noise had stopped once i had restarted the engine. Today the noise was none existant. You could also feel the vibration through the alternators rear plastic cover at the time. Any ideas to what that was? It was definitely the alternator.

If its a Serp then the Magnetti Marelli unit does this with old age get a pair of bearings stuck in it wink don't leave it too long though as the vibration will destroy the innards smile
