What car for my brother...

My brother is looking at buying a 2009 330d it just out of warranty so firstly I was wondering if there are any common problems that he should look out for?
But my main question is that given that he works in London all week and flies home at the weekend so he hardly gets to use his car, so I think he would be better off looking for something petrol and more fun as it will only be used to get about at the weekends and will not anything practical.
I think that he likes the perceived image of the BMW so something with a bit of kerb appeal that he can pose about in would go down well.
He has only ever owned new cars so is terrified of running anything older than 3-4 years.
Fuel consumption isn't high on the list.
He is not the greatest of drivers so nothing to driver focused as it would probably be lost on him and I think he relies on the driver aids more than most.
Budget is about 15k but anything less is equally acceptable
