PCD is the number of bolt holes and the distance apart they are from eachover. 4x100 is 4 bolts 100mm apart.
Got a link to the wheel you are looking at?

I would prefer 17 inch but I am not sure I have a chance of that size fitting?
I don't think they'll look good (especially if you don't lower it), but if you like them that's all that matters. As for the wheel bits in laymans terms;
PCD is to do with the holes for the wheel bolts. 4x100 means theres 4 bolts and if you were to draw a circle that went through all of them it would be 100 in diameter. There are alot of wheels available in 4x100 as it's a pretty common size.
Offset is measured in ET and measures essentially how much your wheel is going to stick out or sit in. A low offset means the hub face (the bit that hooks up to the axle) is more inside the wheel, so the rest of the wheel will stick out more. An ET0 wheel means the hub face is in the middle; ET-20 would be further in the wheel (the wheel would stick out of the arch more), ET20 would mean the hub face is further out the wheel so the wheel itself would sit more in the arch. Different ETs can mess with the handling as it changes the track and geometry, and also sometimes they wont fit properly. I had some ET32 14" wheels on my Fiesta which had a minimum ET of 37, the front wheels rubbed in the arches at full lock.

Thanks a lot for the info, I will be lowering the car by 40mm all round. So if the ET is only a little out I should be all right? Much as this thread has caused me great amusement, can I suggest you sign up to a Yaris forum. They will have experience of what wheel and tyre combinations fit.
The link previously posted will tell you about PCD / ET and bore.
17's will fit, but will make the car look like a roller skate if your not planning on lowering and will require elastic bands for tyres.
Dont forget to inform your insurance company.
