[tinks v8S]

Finally after 5 1/2 years with my V8s hes going to be garaged
renting a garage only a few minutes walk away
winter under a roof

I may be without a place to keep my car soon and im on the look out for an S3. Out of interest what steps have you taken to keep it in good condition? Storm cover? Any major chassis issues from the moist air? How did the car like being outside on early morning start ups etc?

I would have thrown that "old Penny" out has well as the mini.
A garage for the V8s and a new model in the house.

I don't know what Tinks does to keep his car looking so amazing but it's always absolutely immaculate (unless it's had a day in the Alps... ) which makes it hard to believe it hasn't been kept in a garage before now!

I think Tinks must have kept it in the living room, it always looks so immaculate.
But the way Penny keeps her Mini polished & gleaming has to be seen to be believed.

My S3 lives outside on the drive with only a waterproof cover over the roof

~ Wash regularly and get a good coat of wax on it and then Auto Glym Super Resin polish on top of that (the gold logo on the bottle)
~ Bird st removed as soon as spotted (carefully)
~ Chassis sprayed in the Autumn (about to do mine) with ACF50, it's expensive but much better that waxoyl IMO
~ Wheels off and also sprayed with ACF50 (don't get it on the brakes!)
~ Two of those dehumidifyer boxes with the crystals in (Halfords do them) one in each footwell works wonders keeping the interior moisture free

Oh and keep on driving it through the winter, at least until they cover the roads in ste, in fact mine gets used more in the winter than the summer, as I have another toy for when it is warm

I'm the same, use my S2 more in the winter months as tend to get my leg over my GSXR 750 on fair weather days!

Hi Adrian, my S1 has to stay outside as well. I have used an 'autopyjama' full cover but it is a bit of a pain taking it on or off. I know this has been raised before but I would be interested to know how you have covered your hood. I had a simple plastic hood cover but the winter winds caused it to chaff the paintwork.

Hi Richard,
My Austin lives outside with a Leven car hood cover which I reckon is by far the best solution and well worth the outlay.
It's tailored for the S,fully waterproof with flaps that tuck underneath the bonnet & bootlid, as well as overlapping both of them, keeps all rainwater out. It also has plastic clips on webbing straps that go under the mirrors.
It doesn't flap, billow or chafe, and still allows ventilation ( I leave the windows down 1/2 an inch to help and a silica gel dehumidifier in the footwell. )
The cover also allows easy entry to the driver's door without removing the entire cover.
I've tried several others, but this really is the best.

I'm not connected with Leven at all, just a very satisfied customer.

I have got the thick Leven waterproof cover that just covers the roof and windows, so far this has not casued any chaffing, probably because it is quite heavy and is held in place by straps around the mirrors. I also have a 'breathable' cover that was bespoke made for the car but have stopped using it as although it is soft it was chaffing the paintwork on the corners and also the bloody cats were using it as a scratching pot and inevitably the claws went through

You do need to remove the cover frequently though as it does sweat underneath, I just take it off over the w/e for a few hours if it is dry and unlikely to rain
