Hi

Is anybody else having trouble with the classifieds?

I like the old classifieds and have them saved on my computer in my favorites. When I click on them all I get is the new classifieds
I don't like the new classifieds (Just like a lot of PH) so why do they have to change things, is it my age or what?

The new classifieds can be used in EXACTLY the same way as the old - so what's the problem ?

I have to say I'm not a fan of the new classifieds for 2 reasons.

1- When you have it in thumbnail view it doesn't stretch out to fill the browser like the previous classifieds.
2- When you press back after viewing an ad it will go to the top of the page. In the previous classifieds it will go back to that area of the page where you clicked on the ad. Very annoying, especially when you have 100 results per page.

1. I'll concede, it doesn't do that. One of the big changes is that we moved to a centre justified layout, and it's constrained at 1024 pixels (roughly iPad width). However we didn't do this before looking very closely at the screen size most people use, and in the vast majority of cases, this is big enough. However we made the images much bigger, so hopefully that makes up for it.
2. This is on the list to fix. I agree, annoying. I'm told it isn't a big job, so we should get to it soon.

The thing is we like the old system, you tried to move us all to the new system a while ago, and then you agreed to leave the old system in place and now with out any warning you move us to the new system. Why because there are sponsers and non car releated adverts which pay haymarkerting publis money on the new system!

WE DON'T LIKE IT OR WANT IT DO YOU UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please don't shout.

The new system has been running in beta for some months. It has been used by many users during that time, and we always said that we would gradually increase the amount of traffic pushed towards it as we checked that it performed, and then switch off the old platform.

We have never "agreed to leave the old system in place" at all.

Erm I hated the old system and much prefer the new one.

I'm always looking for "different" cars but will only consider manuals and RWD the new search is fantastic and saves me hours.

In specific reply to this.
We switched off /sales/ yesterday and moved to /oldsales/ instead.
This is mostly for Search purposes so that our Google search links now point to the new classifieds and the old one stops getting indexed. So the old functionality is still there. But bookmarks and Google links should all start pointing to the new site.

I can't seem to get the new classifieds working at all. Everytime I click on an specific ad, it just takes me to a screen with 4 similar cars. Anyone else had this issue? I'm using Chrome and Windows 7.

You've got an ad blocker running right?
If you set ph as an exception it'll work just dandy

I have to say I quite like the 'view images (x)' below thumbnails, without the need to go into the listing. Have you ever thought about making it so that the greyed out area around the photo popup could be clickable so as to close it? (hope I've made sense there). That way you wouldn't have to always click on close. But rather you could just click on the large space around it.

The idea for that actually came from a PHer who was given access to the site as part of our early testing. It is a really good idea, and I like it too. If you access the site on an iPad you'll see that it's reasonably touch friendly - tapping most of the area on the right of the image scrolls forwards by one through the gallery (same with a mouse too - you don't need to press on the arrow at all).

I like the suggestion to make a larger area around the image close the pop up. We'll give it some thought. thumbup

I agree and it's a personal nuisance for me as well. If I was a better front-end developer I'd have already fixed it. wink

Sorry to hear this. So, to be clear, this is other TVRs appearing within S-Series? When you say that it is getting worse, are you noticing a particular influx of a certain type of car?

There are a couple of reasons for this which we need to explore:

1) It might be one dealer inadvertently putting stock into the wrong section (possible, but unlikely).

2) It might be dealer feeds running into the old site and then being copied across to the new running into the wrong location. (the most likely scenario).

Leave it with us though.

Hi Stuart,

As you can see in the screen copy , there are already 3 different dealers.
Not likely they all make the same mistake.

It looks like Chim's and Cerb's mostly show up in the S-Series.

Agreed. It's possible that the three dealers are sent by the same feed provider, but we're on the case with it. Should be a simple enough fix. Apologies for not dealing with it sooner, and thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I notice there doesn't seem to be an option to sort cars out by year, like in the old classifieds.
