Help please, Lola is home with us following her bowel resection and we have to give her Antepsin as a "slurry". I don't know what that means, presumably ground and mixed with a liquid? Water?

No I don't either!!

Have you been given tablets? If so that's ashame as it is made in liquid form already!

Water would be the best option but it's going to be gritty I'd have thought. Not sure why you couldn't give it whole, the stomach will break it down.

Yes tablets, someone else has suggested that there is a shortage of liquid Antepsin. I think the idea is mix it with some water and stick it in a syringe...

We'll have to give it a go and then ring tomorrow and check

There was a shortage of Ranitidine recently but I wasn't aware that there was a problem with Antepsin.

Hope Lola is feeling comfortable. She must be relieved to be home smile

Antepsin liquid has been out of stock for a few weeks - think there's a manufacturing issue and what's been made is restricted to human hospital use only.

The only medical reason for trying to get the tablets into a liquid form would be to try and coat the oesphagus in case its inflammed, otherwise as Bex says the tablets will get digested when they hit the stomach.

We've been recommending dissolving the tablets into liquid form if the animal is difficult to give tablets, I'd break them into smaller pieces then keep adding water until they've dissolved then syring it in.

Guess we're lucky as we've still got a couple of bottles on the shelf!

Thanks both, the Uni Vet has confirmed that we should be crushing the tablets and mixing with some water and then syringing them into her mouth so that's what we're doing.

We've had some trauma with her over the last week or so, I'll update the other thread to keep it in one place but thanks to both of you for your help on this and the other thread x
