making jerky...the easy way
Discussion
so, i dont really like the crap jerky they sell in sainsburys et al. I want to try making my own.
but I am too lazy to make my own drying box/dehydrator so want to buy one.
would one of These work well enough of should i get one of These
not knowing what is going to work is a bit hard, and will be a lot of trial and error to begin with.
any advice would be well appreciated

I think that's the sort of thing you need mate. No experience of it myself though.

They're pretty much the same thing - sun dried (traditionally) beef. I think biltong is traditionally a bit thicker, and uses some different spices.
You could spend £150 on a dehydrator, or you could put a 100W lightbulb in a box yourself like this guy http://www.traditionaltx.us/images/JerkyDrierInstr...
If it was me I'd probably want it more airtight to keep flies etc away, but it's

I've a homemade job of something like this. No artificial dehydration - just light source and extractor fan. Sealed from flies, etc.I think that's the sort of thing you need mate. No experience of it myself though.
Biltong perfectly dry in 3 days.
Drop me a PM if you're interested.
I've done this before using the oven. You can put the oven on plate warmer setting with the door left slightly open and it will dry without cooking. I think my oven can be set pretty low and ends up at about 40 deg C with the oven door slightly open.
I used this method after looking for jerky recipes on the interweb. Takes about 24 hours and I thought it worked pretty well.
