Porsche Middle East have gone barmy!
Discussion
The local Porsche Club is holding a drive event next month featuring 10 (yep ten!) virginal 997 Carrera S's for our entertainment (read - thrashing the wheelnuts off them).
We have been told that we will individually get at least 30 minutes behind the wheel during which time a Porsche representative will be driving our own car "safely and behind the convoy".
My guess is Porsche Middle East must be extremely confident of making a substantial number of sales throughout the region and indeed on that day.
When is the 997 released in the UK? And does the Porsche Club GB have this kind of co-operation with Porsche GB?

Oh dear I think I may have pulled a muscle laughing.
Try : To be honest sir we`re not really that bothered, you either want one or you don`t. And in any case if you don`t buy one, (which you couldn`t have for about 5 years even if you do order today), I`ve got a queue of people who have placed an order with us, (most of whom are only hoping to sell on for a premium), so we`re sorted for the next 6 months to a year.
And then strangley enough they moan about people selling cars on for a premium !
The answer is simple - a fast track order system for existing Porsche owners. That way you look after your existing clients and with the remainder of your production capacity grow your market.
If an existing owner does choose to sell on for profit it`s one strike and you`re out.
Of course you could always follow the US and have dealers actually owning cars which they then sell on. I was amazed by the level of stock held by some of the US dealers. It means you can walk in and, err.... buy a car. How refreshing.

Q: "So you want a 997 GT3RS ?
A: "Yes"
Q: "£5,000 [semi] non refundable deposit please."
Q: "Why ???"
A: " Stops speculators and lets us plan our business.
Q; "When will it be made ?"
A : "Not sure but if it is made, it could be for 2007 MY. Are you placing a firm order sir ?"
Q: "What happens if it is never announced for production ?"
A: "You can then have your money back"
Q: "How will you know it's not planned ?"
A: Blank look
At this point a lubricant is required in order to get the £5k from your wallet. No dosh no further communication. Not even the offer of c£2k now and £3k when Porsche announce such a car will be made.
