So my insurance renewal came through a month ago, the premium had increased but not by too much however for a change I decided to check one of the main comparison websites, and to retain the same level of cover (inc protected NCB) I managed to get my quote down by a smidge under £300 saving, result!

Filled out all of the forms on-line, cover to start on 7/10 and off we go, at the point of completing the sale there's an alert stating they cannot prove my NCB discount please call xxx. So called them up and I'm informed to send them the details from my renewal stating my NCB discount, no problem I have the form right here (a single form which states 12 years NCB) so I post this off with a cover letter, policy number etc etc.

So I proceed to contact my previous insurers to cancel the automatic renewal and they said just throw the paperwork away, no problem I thought...

Roll forward to today and I receive a letter from my new insurers stating the documentation I provided cannot be used as proof of NCB (although as stated above it's the only one that mentioned the number of years).

I gave them a call to explain the predicament and they're going to look into it, luckily I scanned this document so have the old policy number etc and did say to them surely all you need to do is call my old insurer using x policy number to verify?

...They're looking into it...

Thoughts?

Just ring old insurers and get them to send the new insurers the proof of ncb, that's how I used to do it. Infact when I went from two different companies to admiral muilticar I didn't need to price ncb which made me think there must be a way of them doing it via MID or something?

I'm surprised an insurer would do this If I'm honest usually they'll just send to the policyholder sending stuff to other insurers can be hit and miss and may end up with the policyholder calling again

There isn't a database for NCB, it may be a case the policy chaser for the NCB wasn't followed up so it would have been taken as utmost good faith.
