I have noticed a few Mercedes Japanese imports on Ebay and noted their rust free condition...

I know there are lots of other imports but I have not noticed any BMW or for that matter any Mercedes SLK's?

any idea why?

This site alone has 141 Jap import BMWs of varying ages in it's stock list;

Why would you want a Jap import mainstream car out of curiosity? Rust should be a non-issue on BMWs.

Edit: they also list 5 Mercedes SLKs if you want a known rust free example. Insurance will probably be dearer though.

I know someone who recently bought a Japanese imported E90 320i, and know of a US-spec E30 M3 for sale that has come across from Japan too. Not sure if either were/are on eBay though

Why?
Because you might find a very nice 80's or 90's BMW from Japan in rust free low miles condition that you will never find here.

Should be, but it's not. That said, there are plenty of BMW's of most types in this country so you can usually get what you're after in rust-free condition if you work hard enough.
