Got a budget of up to a grand.

I know nothing about them, but what is the best type currently??

Also, where's the best place to get them?

Cheers

Slightly vague question. What constitutes best for you? Picture, size, connectivity?

Panasonic GT30 series is arguably the best at the £1k mark. That will get you 46 inches of lovely 3D 1080p plasma TV, possibly the 50" version.

Read the reviews and see if it suits your needs.

Picture & sound quality are my priorities here.

Many thanks

IMHO sound on pretty much any flat screen TV is poor: I only use the built in speakers on our kitchen TV, but the others go through external amps and speakers as they sound so poor. If you are concerned about sound quality, then I reckon you need to allow for some kind of external speaker (even a soundbar might be better than the TV).

When you say 'even a soundbar' does that mean they're not worth the money? I'm thinking of buying a 3D Viera 32in this weekend with the £215 soundbar+woofer option.

It's just that I wasn't massively impressed with the (few) soundbars I've heard, but they do seem a bit better than the TV's own speakers: Perhaps it just depends on what you're used to as my conservatory TV has an older Denon amp and M&K speakers and a small BK XLS200 sub. My living room TV/Projector uses Arcam processor and amps into PMC speakers...In other words, maybe I'm just picky. wink I haven't bothered getting one for the kitchen TV as it's only used for the News and my son's XBox/PC.
