So, there's an Eagle Owl on the loose around our village, has been for months now.

We've seen him loads before, but tonight he landed in our garden. I had to get a better look, so out I go, in only my boxers, and the massive f*cker charges me!

Having just been chased out my own garden by a bird, I decide jeans and a hoody might offer me further protection / bravery.

I get a few rubbish iPhone snaps, and a short video when... He flies straight at me!

That creature is utterly, utterly magnificent. And completely terrifying. I swear his eyes were red - for a brief moment I though Dracula was sitting in my garden! I honestly don't know what he could do to me if he wanted to get nasty, and all male bravado aside I'm fairly unaffected by danger, picking fights, etc. But there is no way in hell I was standing my ground against that giant clawed flying death machine!

Apologies if this offends any Owl fanciers, or conservationists, or whatever. But I assure you I was more frightened of him than he was of me.

can be dangerous, its not the beak to be aware of but the talons, very sharp and can inflict serious damage they always go for the head, wear a helmet get a big fishing net and wear a thick pair of gloves and have a big box ready, beautiful looking bird though.

Whose is it? If it's still hanging round your gaff maybe the owner could come and try and catch the bugger?

I met a tame one at WWT Martin Mere a few months back, you're right, absolutely amazing animals... I'd crap myself if one went for me though.

Apparently the Owl is an escaped pet, but no one has come forward to claim him. He's been living here for ages now so I assume he's doing fine on a diet of less fortunate Piston Headers!

My mate reckons he's even had his own Daily Mail article, but refused to link me to it because Daily Mail. ; )

Ha! Yeah, that's the one!

Thems there hills be Cleadon Hills, only a mile from my house.

While I've been out running the 'Beast' has circled me before. This was when he first arrived on the scene, so I was really excited to have even caught glimpse, let alone have him size me up! Now I think he'll be a good training aid, teaching me to run faster ; )

Does it have to be captured? Can't you let them just get on doing Eagle owl stuff?

Hasn't got circular markings on the wings has it? No unusual thunderstorm activity when it appeared?

One of my folks neighbours used to keep birds of prey, including a european eagle owl. He was woken late one night by some noise in the garden and headed out to investigate. He found the eagle owl cage door open and feared that it had been stolen (quite common apparently, they're worth a fair old amount).
Further inspection revealed a blood trail leading from the cage down to the fields at the end of his garden, and the eagle owl stood on it's perch, feet covered in blood and a large patch of blood soaked denim hanging off one of the talons.
Police were called, and the would be owl-napper was picked up a couple of hours later in the local A&E after receiving an impressive collection of stitches.

He's outside again. Like I said in the first post, he's a bit of a regular been around for ages, but I'll be giving him a wide birth from here... No more gwaping like a starstruck idiot Ha!

Has the strangest 'twit twoo' though. Think of a kid making a two note high to low 'OOOOOOooooooh' and you're there.

The elderly cat and st Zoo dog are locked safely away in the house ; )
