Just got off the phone from my insurers. I had the papers for my renewal quote through the post the other day (£522 for the year, fully comp, £700 excess, 5k miles) Down from £560 for this year.

Decided to look on a comparison website and upped the mileage to 10k as I was slightly over my limit this year. The best quote was Elephant at £420.

Rang my insurance co and explained I had found cheaper online.

The easy to understand American lady asks "Can I ask which company this is with?"
"Elephant" I reply.
"oh well as that's a sister company of ours we shouldn't have any problem in matching it. Let me send that through and someone will ring you back."

Sure enough a few minutes later an American Bloke calls me back and talks me through the quote details and price.
"Do you have breakdown cover?"
"Yes thanks."
"That's OK, you probably won't need it though being a Toyota."

Conversation ensues chatting about MR2's, his previous one and my current one. Brief chat about Supras/other Jap cars and that was that!

£100 in the back pocket, a very pleasant customer service experience and a call centre with easy to understand accents that's open til 10pm!

Cool story bro etc etc...

Just thought I'd share, seems we need a breath of fresh air with all the insurance hassle at present biggrin

I think they are canadian and not american...... At least last time idealt with Admiral they were and i agree the customer service they offered was great..... Just a shame the multicar policy became a rip off after one year!

So they tried to fleece you an additional £100, and you are happy.

I would have phucked them off out of it, and gone elsewhere.

Now you mention it, I think I did hear him mention "here in Halifax gas is $$$ per litre..."

I swear every person I have spoken to when getting insurance has the same car as I'm trying to insure, or has owned it xD.

Bell/Elephant/Admiral are good when getting a quote, but I've found, they have crap customer service when making a claim.

I fully understood your post.

If they are happy to renew your policy for £420, why send you a renewal for £520?

Turn it around. If your car was worth £400 and you put it up for sale at £520. If I'd previously bought the same car at £560 I'd be happy with the price you'd quoted (you'd be even happier mind). If I knocked you down to £420 you and I would both be pretty chuffed.

I never said insurance companies were fair, merely the process of finding a quote and phoning them was all that was required. No fuss, no transfer of NCB. Just pleasant sounding people who were happy to do their job, happy to not sell me stuff I didn't want and genuinely a pleasure to deal with. At a time that suited me which was presumably less busy to avoid sitting on hold.

Not the usual, accent you can't understand in such a busy call centre that you can't hear them over everyone else. That is if you get through to anyone in the first place and don't just sit in a queue listening to painfully st music. Just to finally get through and listen to a never ending list of special offers T&C's and "are you sure you wouldn't prefer..."

ETA: To be fair, as far as phucking them off to go elsewhere it's a bit of a non starter. Their quote on the comparison website was the cheapest. Whether I like them or not, I'm not going to pay more for my insurance just out of some sort of spite smile
