Trumpets missing from Orchestra

Car in at Austec yesterday PM for trumpets and injectors/ Mark Adams fiddle.
They removed top of plenum and stood there gob smacked
,
the trumpet section had left the orchestor pit,
yes you got it, NO TRUMPETS FITTED, that explains the low torque below 4000 rpm.
After much

: they fitted new cardon trumpets, bigger injectors and put it on the rolling road for Mark Adams & Paul to play with, 2 hours later they get out the car grinning.
Left Austec for the drive home and the engine and acceleration is so smooooooth, absolutely gorgous, I didn't think these mods would have made such a big difference.
Torque curve now starts to come in at around 2000rpm and at 4000rpm its a case of "oh f
K, I now have the biggest grin in the world.
One very happy Redcar.
Oh yes the figures.
306BHP with 317 ft lbs torque.

You sure the engine not swallowed the old trumpets and spat them out the back in disgust !!
Hope the back tyres last you at least a couple of weeks with that heavy right foot.
So what mods you got ?

4.6 Ltr airflow meter.
Repositioned air intake and very short inlet hose between flow meter & plenum.
re-map by Mark on fuel map and I beleive yesterday acceleration program re-map.
And upgraded brakes & suspension to cope with the extra power.

Do you still have an standard plenum ali top or is it one of the 'tall' early ones
. Trumpets, 45m carbon or ali
, I assume the 450 already has the inlet manifold ported. When you say short hose between the AFM-Plenum how short is short, any pics
. So many questions
, I'm interested as this is still an area I'm trying to improve upon in the old V8S

Plenum is orginal ali one (1990 car) trumpets are 38mm carbon flare (ACT) into original base and original inlet manifold.
I think Mark Adams & Paul where surprised by power, scarey thing is they reckon there's still shed loads in there
but no more pay-out yet.They think it's got very big valves, cam is standard. Picture of inlet arrangement sent to your email.

Would like to see a pic of how the meter has been positiones as I don't think my air filter would fit in at about 20inches long, so may have to try and duct air to it directly

Airflow meter is 4.6 ltr range rover one on hot wire arrangement.

Not gone that way jet, as have a Jag afm (3 inchs wide)with larger plenum and injectors
Although I do have hotwire system components like afm, inlet manifold, injectors etc in my shed and was wondering if would be worth the hazzle to plumb all in as need different ecu - hence you being able to re-chip etc
May just get running and put on a rolling road to try and compare against you'r 306BHP
Then maybe think about carbs as nice and easy to work with !!

If anyone is doing this I have found an alternative to positioning the coolant tank where the AFM normally sits is to put it centre of the windscreen bulkhead. It fits really nicely and is also higher although I do have a Range Rover tank rather than the norm.
Another advantage of this is that it leaves the whole of the left side inner wheel arch free to run a big hose down to a scoop behind the rad. Box the AFM and filter in by running a sheet across from the wheel arch to the bulkhead, make a flanged opening for the hose from the scoop and you have a nice large cold air box. When stationary, air is pulled from the front bonnet vents and bottom of windscreen and when moving cold air is forced into the boxed off area. The only thing you will need to do is to fabricate a longer bracket to hold the AFM and possibly fit a new cone shaped air filter (K&N do a nice small cone with an open end - that is air can enter from the end as well as the sides - much smaller than the big round one but with the same suface area).
Also I have found a useful mod is to fit a tee piece into the top heater hose and connect a 10mm rubber pipe about 200mm long. You can then put the end of a tundish in this when filling the system and it will be by far the highest point. When full the end of the hose can be plugged and clamped and tucked out of the way.
As a total aside when I had the AFM in my hands I noticed NCK135 stamped on it - same number as on the V5 but the plate on the wheel arch gives the engine number as NCK130 in typical TVR fashion. Does show though that the car probably had a Jag AFM from new and assumedly the flap spring was set up correctly. Was the ECU also set up though is the big question.
