I'm thinking about purchasing a RR in the very near future and have been looking online to see if there are many bargains about. From what ive seen so far my engine selection will be between the 2.7 or 3.6 diesel engines, could anyone shine any light as to the advantages and disadvantages of both would be.

I have a general idea as to what one i prefer but thought i'd ask the forum to see if the experts could help me out. Also does anyone know any good dealer websites that specialise in RR sales?

Cheers

3.6 is a V8, more power, more torque, more expensive vehicle when new. So likely less choice, but more higher spec versions.

2.7 is a V6 and a base engine and has been around since the D3 introduction. Many will be lower spec (although some higher spec). But likely lots more to chose from.

Power & performance are the main differences though.

Massive difference between the engines... If you take a 3.6 TDV8 out for a drive, you'll never want to drive the 2.7 TDV6 again!

Both are very solid engines but IMO the TDV8 is better suited to the RRSport due to its character & performance.

In theory, the TDV8 should have better residual values too (supply & demand, etc...).

By RR, I presume you mean Range Rover (Full Fat as opposed to Sport).

If so, you have two diesel options. The first is the BMW engined TD6 3.0. Not a bad engine but it's basically a slug and was discontinued in 2005 or so. There are issues with the associated GM five-speed gearbox as well so do your research if your budget suggests you go down this route.

The other is the 3.6 TDV8 (also available on the RR Sport). I've just bought one in Full Fat form and it's superb, having previously owned a 4.4 V8 petrol. There is a 4.4 TDV8 now as well but they're still pretty big money.

The 2.7 TDV6 was available in the Disco and the Range Rover Sport only.
