I have just booked for me and the Mrs to go to New York after Christmas for 5 nights. We are staying in time square. Never been before so want to make the most of it

So what should we do when we are there?

What should i skip doing?

Where is the best place to go for New Years Eve?

Cheers Andy

Take a BIG coat. New York in winter can be unbelievably cold.

Times Sq for new year - but it will be insane...

I'd skip Times Square (avoid the hawkers trying to get you into restaurants) smile ... there are a couple of interesting shops there though like the massive Toys 'R Us.

x2 on the coat (plus hat and gloves) it can be bloody freezing in winter there.

My favs are:

Empire State Building (go at night/evening to avoid the queues)
Rockefeller tower/plaza (alternative to ESB and you've got the skating rink at xmas)
5th Ave for shops
Central Park for a breather
The High Line park
Intrepid Air & Space museum
Staten Island Ferry (free view of Statue of Liberty and skyline)
Greenwich Village for eating/drinking and general walking around
Circle Line boat tour if you can stand the cold
Grand Central Station
Met Museum of Art and Natural History Museum
Brooklyn Bridge
Macy's if you like big department stores
BH Photo Video if you like tech stores
Day passes for the subway

Thanks all for the advice so far a good few places now added to my list.

The Mrs wants to go and see a show on broadway, is it worth trying to book tickets before we go or just find some when we are there?

Don't buy theatre tickets in advance. Go to the ticket place at Times Square on the day and save big time.

This.

If it's snowed you'll need proper boots, hats etc.

It can get proeprly cold especially with the wind chill.
