Warranties, a positive experience !

Just had a new caliper,and 2 disks replaced by my Scotsure warranty. The front caliper seized on and warped my F/N/S disk. Phoned the AA who recovered me home. This morning phoned Scotsure warranties who told me to take it to a garage who was a member of Scottish Motor Trade Association. So dropped it of this morning at local garage. 4.15PM a telephone call to tell me new caliper and 2 new disks on the front and car was ready. Cost to me zero pounds. Warranties and associated companies get a bad rap some times. But mt experience has been pleasant.
Nice story, pleased for you - and a good outcome.
However - I daresay it's an unusual story!
Example - me and my G/F at the time bought a Peugeot 205 Turbo Diesel back in 1998 from an independent dealer. Had a so-called 'warranty' on it, a bit like yours.
Presently, the injector pump failed. 'No worries' thinks I - it's got a warranty! So I called the dealer, and he told me that he doesn't have his own workshop, so to take it to a Peugeot place and call the warranty company.
The cost of a new pump was £600, and the labour to fit it - another £200. Spoke to the warranty company, who regrettably directed me to their small print, which said 'fuel system faults - claim limit £300.'
So we ended up having to fork out £500 of our own money. Not happy

Ray - Cannot help but think thats your fault for not reading the small print. and even in 1998 it wasnt a new car.
If I get a warranty I want it to cover everything but consumables and I also have had very good experiences
406 coupe new in 1998 - 1999 -replaced radiator, 2004- Front adaptive shock and 2005 -coils. actual cost - price of recovery to garage........... which was later refunded.

Oh yeah James - my fault entirely, you're right. If I get a warranty I want it to cover everything but consumables and I also have had very good experiences

But we were kids back then - so of course, the nice dealer re-assured us that 'don't worry, you have a full warranty back-up on this nice car' when we bought it, and so as naieve 20-somethings, we swallowed it without cynically thinking we had better read through the reams of small print!
A lesson learned though for an adult life - and sadly now, having been caught out on more than one occasion by this kind of chicanery - I am a very cynical, dis-trusting and wizened old man, who wouldn't trust my own Granny!
Shame, but shady companies have made me like this!

I didnt mean it in an offensive way- just meant you have to really be careful. And I agree there are alot of dodgy companies out there- how ever since moving to Aus my views have severely been changed. But we were kids back then - so of course, the nice dealer re-assured us that 'don't worry, you have a full warranty back-up on this nice car' when we bought it, and so as naieve 20-somethings, we swallowed it without cynically thinking we had better read through the reams of small print!

Example, bought a wave board down in Torquay - about $50, after an afternoons use it broke, the wood splitting down the centre.
Took it back to shop and spoke to store owner- he not only gives me a much nicer one as a replacement but $10 to cover my petrol having to come back.
Now thats how things should be done!

The dealer could still have been liable.
