Spotted - Porsche 944 Carerra GT-S
Discussion
Saw a Red Porsche 924 Carrera GT-s with a Kremer sticker on the back on the way up to silverstone on the A34 Newbury By-pass. (and then again in the silverstone car park).
I think it was an (old) V plate, Looked beautiful, flared Arches, big fat tyres and kind of aero kit on it including faired in headlights and massive rear spoiler.
Is this a Factory car, if not the finish was perfect and are they rare?
Car was fitted with roll cage and auxilary gauges and dials inside.
Is it a member's car? someone must know who owns it.
Thanks in advance.

edit - yes, it's a 924, not 944 and I know I've spelt Carrera wrong.

924GTS is inded a rare old thing, the hotter version of the 924 Carrera GT, not got the figs to hand but not many of them about, Derek Bell usd to have one & I think still has, so it 'might' have been him!
GTR is the one you really want to try & spot! 375bhp in race trim
dont think any were ever any GTR road cars tho.

I recall reading that Lord March (Goodwood) ran a black 924 carrera GT for many years as his daily
driver.
Things move on and he now has a Carrera GT, but i doubt somehow it his daily driver

Read it somewhere in the internet so it must be true.

The three GTRs that ran in Le Mans in 1980 and finished 6th, 12th and 13th had 320 bhp and weighed 930 kg.
Four GTRs were entered in the '81 Le Mans, they had 375 bhp. Three were customer cars : one failed to qualify, another one broke the gear box after 2 hours and the third finished 11th.
The factory car called 924 GTP LM finished 7th, driven by Barth and Röhrl . It actually was the prototype of the 944 with the 2.5 engine with balancer shafts.

I have to admit the Le Mans 924/944 cars fascinate me
and I would bloody well love to know where any of them reside now.
I belive that the 81 cars will be eligible for the Classic Le Mans in 2006 (is the rule 25 years old?) and I really, really, really, really, really hope one of them makes it out of the woodwork.
I bet they don't though
