Apart from the lack of Touring cars on the circuit, my recent experience shows,as most will guess that some private sellers have un realistic expectations of value.
I just had a private car AUC inspected at a cost of £232. Well worth the money as it picked up 2 items that I had not seen on my inspection. The cost of sorting these two issues would run at £1000 from the dealer. Add to that a service due and tax required in a month and the car starts to look expensive up against an AUC network car.Granted you could do the jobs yourself and save a few £ on the labour, but that is hardly a fair reflection on the purchase price.

My advise is to use this service from BMW and the excellent guide from Eddie and if the deal doesn't stack up,walk away. Just block your ears,so the V10 howl doesn't suck you in!!

I debated over this a few months ago and could not see how the price differential of the private cars made the possible cost saving worthwhile over a BMW approved and warrantied car. We paid an extra 900 quid and extended the one year warranty to two. Owned it for 4 weeks before we needed 1200 quid worth of repairs after the boot was found to be leaking and water killed some of the electronics in the tyre well. Not covered under warranty but was by the selling dealer. Two weeks later a key died, replaced under warranty

I could not own and enjoy my M5 without warranty coverage. As it is, I can drive it as hard as I dare without fear.

Cheers

Your dealer had your trousers down over the cost of extending the AUC warranty - its £500 for the second year (and I have paperwork to prrove it!).

The cost depends upon the miles the car has done. When I renewed mine with BMW it was c£900

Could have been 500 David, I will need to find the paperwork to check. The car had done only 27k.
