If you decat the whole system so there is only the standard box on the back and you say have Clive Y piece installed.

You take it for the MOT and either chuck the inspector a few quid or swop the catted Y back in for the day so it passes.

If you then have an accident, and the car is inspected for insurance purposes,is it illegal to have the cats out when they were factory fitted, and surely they would know the CO2 emmissions would not pass with the car running on that set up, even though you would have a pass certificate.

Do we run the risk of the insurance companies refusing to pay out, and can you be prosecuted for was is in reality an illegal set up on the car.

Only asking......

Good chance they might not pay out. Not declaring Mods is not worth the risk in my eyes. Most of the time it does not have a great effect on your premiums.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that you run down a 22 y/o breadwinner with 2 small children and cripple him. The courts award him £10M damages against you. The insurance company is going to go over your car with an electron microscope, looking for reasons not to pay. You're going to be arguing in court against £600/hr QCs. You broke your contract with the insurance company; your arse is grass and they're the lawnmower. Is it worth it?

That's exactly what I did, and they were fine about it.

In fact my insurer hasn't charged me for a single mod so far, that includes the change of my entire engine management system.

I get them to send me a confirmation email every time I inform them of a mod & keep all the emails on file just in case.

Operating like this, I'm confident I'm fully covered.

But, could you get prosecuted by the old bill, for having a car with no cats in that fails the emmission tests,or could you just say it passed the MOT last time round with the cats out,and that would be that!
