Noisy diff bearing

My Griff 500 is a 1995 model which probably has the GKN differential.

The diff seems to have a dry bearing noise which is slowly getting louder. I am thinking of getting a re-build. Has anyone got any advice on who could undertake this and an idea of cost?

I live in the Bedfordshire region

Dave Porter of Hinckley, Leics has built a replacement GKN diff for me. I pick it up from him tomorrow.
He has an excellent reputation and comes highly recommended.

Don't leave it too long if the diff as bearing noise as the crown wheel & pinion sets are scarce and they suffer 1st if the bearings supporting the pinion as failed.

Check the prop shaft UJ's before spending big on the diff ~ they are only about £30 for the pair. While you're at it make sure the drive shafts are bolted up and the diff bushes are all OK. With the prop shaft off it's easy to check the play in the diff nose bearing BTW.

Good call I see a Chimaera a little while back that was making some horrible graveley (is that a word?) grinding sounds from the rear the inboard CV bolts were loose on one side

Topcats did a very nice job on mine. All new bearings and sourced the correct ones.

Thanks Graham. Was it easy to remove from the car or did you do it after the body off?

They picked it up on a trailer. One of those jobs that I didn't do. Diff is not too difficult to remove in theory, but bolts can seize.
