C16 is a UK car.

Other right handlers, such as Cyprus are C98 etc.

Depends where you intend to sell it, I suppose?

Ah, I had this with an Audi TT back in 2001/2.

Buyer pulled out when he realised it was an "import" - ended up selling it to Audi Poole, who underwrote it and sold it on at full UK value off their forecourt!

Where was it originally registered?

No worries with that spec.

There was a time when Porsche GB and many UK OPCs were a bit anti towards unofficial 'grey' imports, and this caused a bit of stigma on values. However, this doesn't seem to be an issue these days.

When I enquired about that car, the seller confirmed it was a c98 spec and imported through either Cyprus or Malta. It's been for sale for a very long time so a good opportunity to haggle hard. Come trade in time, a c98 will be valued less that a c16 car. You will need to check that the alarm system has been upgraded to UK spec as it may affect your insurance.

Thanks for the info David. So this car isn't even c16 spec, in which case it has entirely lost my interest. Even at a huge discount I'd struggle to part the hard earned.

How many owners has the car had?
I'd rather have a one owner GT3 in C98 spec than a 4 owner C16 and be wondering how many have tracked it

Why!? They are built to be tracked. As long as maintained shouldn't be a problem should it?

If the spec is correct (and alarm configured correctly) then it makes no difference - Porsche warranty is global.

For example, Autobahn used to source lots of new stock via Cyprus (C98) dealers, although I'd be surprised if they weren't factory collected and shipped direct from Stuttgart to Coventry. They also knew the UK spec perfectly such that any that they did source would be exactly the same as a car with C16 on the sticker (apart from not coming with a Porsche Experience Day).

When owning and driving the car you will never give a second thought to two digits on a sticker in the service book, just the same as whatever the digit is next to "number of former keepers" on the V5C won't keep you awake at night either. smile

You could also be faced with a 1 owner car that has been totally abused/crashed and then presented as a " Cherished, 1 Owner, Never Tracked Example". I went to view a white, 1 owner 997.1 GT3, that is currently for-sale on Autotrader, it's an absolute shed and not as described. As always, buy on condition!

There did used to be a problem.

Go back a few years and individuals, and some unauthorised dealers, were sourcing cars in other European markets and importing them to the UK at a significant discount on the UK list price.

Porsche GB and the OPC network took exception to this 'grey market', but it really kicked off in 2004 at the Brand Hatch Porsche Festival, when a non-franchised trader had a then new 997 on display in front of Porsche GB's stand, before it had been officially launched in the UK.

Porsche GB were furious and would offer no favours to owners of 'grey imports' (ie 'goodwill warranty') and many OPCs said they would not retail used unofficial imports (even if they were C16). There were also legal considerations under the sale of goods act - there were no rights of redress though Porsche GB or a UK OPC.

This contributed to the perception that these cars were worth less, especially when under 5 years old. However, it seems that now the grey import market has diminished, Porsche are no longer concerned. So the value differential is less significant.

There are still some buyers who will prefer a UK OPC/Porsche GB supplied car, others may have no such concerns.
