I renewed our Galaxy last month and didn't bother with Legal Protection as the car is hardly used due to cycling to work, using the little Citroen, working from home, kids going to school on the bus so it just sits there, probably will only do 1 to 2k this year so I left it off to keep the cost down, I mentioned it to the wife and she went mad, she thinks it is mental, "What if one of the kids friends falls out of the car and sues us".

I seem to spend half my income on house insurance, life insurance, pet insurance, gas insurance, health insurance etc etc so was cutting a corner, it was only thirty quid but just seemed superfluous given it sits there most of the time.

What does it actually buy you, have you ever had to use it, how far does it go, can we really lose our house if someone sues us for something that happens on the road, I thought that was what the insurance was for ?

I've had to use it and I would never take insurance without it again. However, on a car not worth anything that hardly moves - who cares? I probably wouldn't bother either.

After a no fault write off it got me £2000 and reinstatement of my full NCB so was money well spent.

I get it through work for 49p a month, awesome service. It's helped friends, family and myself out for the last few years.

What? If it was non fault, why would they need to reinstate your NCB? You haven't lost it

If you have more than one car and one of the other cars has legal cover I don't think you need it again - at least that is what my insurer has told me so I have cover included in the insurance cost for one car and the other is automatically covered too at no extra cost.

Given that the last time I had to claim on insurance (when someone drove into the Mrs who was in my car at the time) the first question I was asked when I rang up was "Would you like to pay for legal cover" why would I pay for it just in case?

I dropped it some time ago. If I have a fault accident then I don't need, if it's non fault then there are enough no win no fee places about.

Your insurance covers the indemnity of third parties. Including your passengers. MLP covers your uninsured lossed in a non-fault claim, such as your excess, medical expenses or loss of fun. Not having it doesn't make a difference in your wifes out-of-this-world example.

Any solicitor will take on a legal battle on a no win, no fee basis. If you tick the legal protection box, your insurance company will ring one of these solicitors on your behalf.
So that's up to £30 just for a phone call. It's as simple as that.
But some people are misguided/scared and will keep paying, no matter what anyone says.

Couldn't agree more. I treat it with the same contempt as Protected NCD. Utter waste of time and money.
