The desert is a tough place one you leave the highways, and Arizona is amazingly remote when you get away from the Metropolitan areas. The 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited was perfect for the purpose ...superb for offloading, surprisingly comfortable, able to transport large dogs, and easy to drive for visitors. Due to some business commitments I had limited time to pick it up and run it it. In the end, I drove it 870 miles in two days, on and off road.
The colour is not for everyone of course, but a bit less striking than my Viper GT3RS
Interior is functional
First day drove it way out from Scottsdale to a very remote part of old Route 66, West of Kingman and over to the California border...
and then into Oatman, a town where wild Burros roam the streets. Clarke Gable and Carole Lombard spent their honeymoon in the Oatman hotel.
Then it was time to go off road, a 70 mile loop through the town of Crown King, the only gas on the route. There is nobody out here and it climbs straight up to about 6600 ft....
Overall, it it a surprisingly civilized bit of kit, tough as old nails, but surprisingly quiet considering that the removable roof is unlined, leaving a full roll cage. Cruises all day long at 80mph, (speed limit on AZ highways is 75), and leaves you feeling OK after a long trip. Offroad it is a mountain goat, with low range, selectable drive and high clearance. It is going to have a tough life, but its a tough truck. So far, a completely unique ownership experience for me. It will live at the winter house in AZ and will be used solely in the South West.

I love the new style wrangler but prefer the swb version. Much more usable than its predecessor (pre 2007) on a daily basis but not quite as much fun either. The new one minus roof, doors and screen is entertaining.
I have driven the SWB which is prettier and better off road, but no good for hauling big dogs around. Also useless as an airport hack if there are a couple of people arriving. IF I had no practical considerations I would have bought one. Cheaper too
