996 Turbo to 997 Turbo

Considering upgrading to a 997 Turbo, had my 996 for 3 years now & love it. It's also a cracking example with squeaky clean history & a Porsche Warranty all it's life. Manual, Seal grey, black leather, silver dials. Best combo IMHO.
Anyone made the same move & what are your opinions?

I have done this and it was a great move for me and have never looked back.
Some people would disagree but these people are generally the ones who dream about doing it themselves but cannot so dont let them put you off.
The 997tt is superior in every way IMO.

Just to give you a contrasting view: I made the same move.
I held on to my 996 at the time, as was getting such a low trade-in and couldn't let it go for such a low price.
As it happened, I was a little disappointed with the 997. Don't get me wrong,an absolutely great car, but had I not come from a 996 turbo, I would have thought it the best car in the world. As it was, I ended up trading the 997 back and keeping the 996. They are both silly quick so no issues there.
The 997 is a little more refined and comfortable. Great as an everyday. For me, didn't fit the bill as a weekend car, and essentially, couldn't for the life of me work out where the extra £25k from the 996 was going. 996 is ultimate value for money (if you can live with the headlights) and I may just end up keeping mine for a few more years!

From my one day with a 997 turbo, I found the drive of the 997 more nimble and the controls were lighter. The turbochargers spooled up much faster and from lower revs so more power was available more of the time (not that it's ever an issue in the 996 to be honest). The interior of course is fantastic on the 997 and the exterior is just gorgeous.
The 996 steering had more feel though, the car felt a bit more organic than the 997 where it felt a little removed from the driving experience. As an everyday car it makes the 997 a little easier to drive than the 996.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I love my 996 but its 10 in May & has 68k on the clock now. It has always put a smile on my face but I now have the funds to go for a 997 & despite all the 996 lovers(myself included) its the logical step. I could go GTR but I'll only be able to say I drive a Nissan. There's just something about a 911 Turbo. It's a Supercar after all. Anyway my 996 will b on Classifieds v soon. U will not get 1 with a better history. View in Belfast vv soon.

Sold my 996 TT last week, could have looked at gettinga 997 TT as a replacement but I personally couldn't see where that extra ££ was, initally I was after a GTR as a replacement, however took an E60 M5 as part exchange and I'm enjoying that to much to sell it. Thought about a GT2RS? Seem to hold onto value more aslong as history is kept updated, unless your after an all rounder?
The E92 M3 is also quite nice, but your also starting to enter the R8 price range?
If you got the funds for it then by all means go for it, they're still great cars, just not a decision I'd make. The 991 does look great though, was in Solihull OPC two weeks back and they have a black one there,cannot wait to see the TT version of that come out!

I am amazed that you are enjoying the BMW coming from your 996 Turbo. I have a E92 M3, 4.0 V8 on loan out side as we speak and find it (compared to my 996 turbo) gutless to say the least! The only up side to the car is that all the boy racers think its great! (That says it all really The E92 M3 is also quite nice, but your also starting to enter the R8 price range?

)I'm a strange one and usually prefer a saloon over a coupe, I have been out in an E92 but never driven one myself however I prefer the E60 over it from a passengers view.
The 911 was an animal, I loved the amount of low down torque, but there wasn't "emotion" attached to it, maybe that's just me, it was a scary fast car (mine was stock) and could do some silly speeds very easily, but not for me. I'm a huge GTR nut at heart, owned more than a few and maybe that clouded my view of one.
Power wise the 996 TT does win, no contest there under 100mph, over 100mph I think the engine size would help out alot!
The E92 doesn't sound as good as an E60 btw, that 5l V10 sounds amazing hence why I'm getting less than 50miles for £25, I don't mind though

I see where you are coming from. Do you think you will get back into a GTR, my mate has one and they are very impressive, especially round roundabouts

I also have a 996 turbo - but for the difference in value between my 996 turbo and a 997 turbo, I have a Ferrari instead.
I've got a VR6 Corrado aswell so 3 cars is pushing the boat out a bit! lol GTR was in my mind, never driven one so need to do that. I also have a 996 turbo - but for the difference in value between my 996 turbo and a 997 turbo, I have a Ferrari instead.

,just going to wait till longer as I can save some money up now Sorry OP going off topic,but then again maybe it's on topic if you want to look at a Nissan? Must say the biggest difference for when I sold my R34 GTR and got an 996 TT, was everyone thinking I'm rich right away and having the whole office ask if that's my Porsche outside,they didn't realise that those two car's are worth the same.. You get alot more attention in a Porsche than a Nissan, who knew? lol
