Voluntary redundancy and professional fees

Firm where I work is currently offering a voluntary redundancy scheme.

I've been offered 20k to go, but I owe the company 6k of professional fees (tied in for 3 years after qualifying, currently just under 2 years remaining).

Does anyone know if, when taking voluntary redundancy, professional fees are waivered?

I have looked through my contract and it seems pretty wooly (HR and vague, now there's a surprise ), and I appreciate every company is different but has anyone else got any prior experience of this?

VR in itself won't negate any other terms of your employment contract. I suspect that if they are offering you 20k then they will want to wrap this in a compromise agreement. In that case you may be able to address this as a point of negotiation as part of a compromise agreement.

Depends how many takers they get for VR and how desperate they are for volunteers.

I suspect if you had said nothing, they probably wouldn't have noticed! In any event, I'm 99% sure that any employer worth their salt would write this off as part of a redundancy package, but only if you insist. Good luck!
