ok so the letter from DVLA arrived today stating my tax expires Oct 31st. I am in a Dilemma wether to tax for a year £220 or SORN until spring.

Head: SORN , avoid wet weather, salt on roads, the increased chance of me stuffing it in a hedge, keep the mileage down, keep the fuel bill down etc, etc. Money saved can go towards fettling, servicing etc.

Heart: I bloody love it!, last weekend blast with 10 other TVR's for Fish and chips, today, took my dad a drive round , Buxton,Bakewell,Castleton and Chatsworth for his birthday, it rained a bit, car never missed a beat, roof down, we both loved it! etc.

What if it is nice Christmas day, kids finished opening presents, 2 hours till lunch, roads deserted and glorious winters morning.

Arghhh!!

If you arn't strapped for cash, whats a couple of hundred quid, compared to happiness, just a little less throttle on the back roads just take it easy, and abit of common sense.smile

It's only going to cost an extra £110 extra as you will tax it in March-April anyway. [Mind you this is from someone who sorned his from September!!!]

actually it is only £99 difference , and I suppose I would be saving the mileage and fuel as the opportunities for using it will be less over the winter anyway, but if it was taxed would have the option to fire it up and take it out if the weather is fine.

Plus getting it mucky gives me an excuse to wash it,, weird I know biggrin

£220 ! it seems to be going up quickly ..only £190 a couple of years back ..

I was shocked to see an 09 Aston Martin, over £1000 to tax it .They will be giving those cars away in a few years ..

Who the hell made up this A to M road tax setup ,noticed on the site the emissions on the most expensive tax bracket are only double the emmisions( co2 Kilogram per km)to the lowest .

So thats £20 to £1000 by doubling the co2`s ..don`t seem fair if you only do a few thousand miles.

Who desiged this system ?

had same dilema ... but will tax all year. There's always the odd day over winter when there's been a few days rain after the salt to wash it all away, sun comes out to dry the roads ... cold yes but dry and sunny. You can avoid the dreaded salt. Had a few days last winter and took full advantage. Another reason to keep her on the road - running the car all year round is much, much better for the car ... even if you only do a few hundred miles it keeps things in good order - engine, brakes, tyres.

Have heard that better cars are ones used regular, like U say even taken out once a month keeps brakes and wheels free and turns the engine over etc. Think will tax for the year. Even if it doesn't get used much atleast I have the option, rather than kicking myself if I don't tax it and an opportunity arises where I could be out in it!

But double the emssions from the cheapest to the most expensive ,that`s like running two small cars and they are charging 50 times more !

Was it Europe the EU who came up with this idea .. now there talking about Tolls ,its getting silly..

I tax mine all year. There's no point in SORNing over winter as it does get used on the odd days, plus if I needed to take it to the specialist then it would be a pain.

I sorned last year but it was a nuisance as my MOT ran out, not bothering to do it again for the sake of a few quid

No way Jose.....mine stays on the road. Even regular short trips to the shops or the pub will help keep the car in good nick, the battery charged, the doors therefore openable, etc etc. and when someone suggests TiTTs 8.5 for Boxing Day I will be there, roof off, monkeys brazed, wooly hat on, behaving like a school boy again.lick

Yup Going to tax it! I had listened to my head for years saying U can't buy tvr too expensive to run, insure, always breakdown and won't be as good as you imagine... yeah right! Wish I had ignored the head years ago, bring on the wooly hat and gloves (too much?) biggrin
