Hi,
I currently have 2 Hard drives in my pc, one my own and the other someone else’s, I need to get their emails from their drive to back them up, but I cant find them.
I have done a search and found this thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=79937&f=95&h=0&hw=Email very similar problem to mine, but he found his.
They would be saved by outlook onto a pc using xp pro. Searched for .pst and cant find them that way either.
If I could find these folders (C:>Documents and Settings>username>Local Settings>Application Data>Microsoft>Outlook ) it would be simple but it gets as far as (F:>Documents and Settings>username>) then there is nothing relevant in any of the sub folders.
Any hints?
Cheers

Outlook or Outlook Express?

They deal with their mail in slightly different ways..

If you cant find a .pst (Outlook) then search for inbox.dbx (Outlook Express)

also make sure you have 'Show Hidden Files' enabled in your search options, and in Explorer options (tools, folder Options)

Should result in summin

there are 2 ways.

a) using your copy of express, you can select under the maintainence option (under the tools option mebbe.. its been a while) the location of your data.

simply move it to the locate of their inbox.dbx, and it should load that.

b) copy their inbox.dbx in place of yours (after first renaming / backing up yours) and open as usual.

This process is the same for outlook (not express) just with PST's instead... tho iirc you might need to delete your .pst (after backup / renaming) and then open outlook, it will then whinge it cant find the pst.. and ask for you to point it..

OR, iirc in Outlook you can 'load in a mail store' and simply load their PST AND your PST together, and drag and drop.

To detrmine which maildump is there (pst or dbx) just check which one looks sizeable.

Rambled on but I hope you get the Gist.
