About to spend the weekend converting a caravan into a trailer.

The trailer is going to be multipurpose, and used to transport my hovercraft for most of the time, but with the facility to carry a frame for use as a carnival float.

Before we start welding whats the maximum width of a trailer? Does the width depend on the to vehicle? If so is there a difference between a car and 4X4?

By the way what restiction is there on length?

Can you license a hovercraft for the road? That would be the coolest solution.

I have a feeling it has no wheels and will therefore fail somewhere!

You can tow a trailer wider than 2.3m if your car or vehicle is over 3.5 tonnes (might be 3.2 tonnes but you get the picture).

Ah... but... JVCs with catapillar tracks can go on the road, can't they? I reckon you could make a hovercraft roadworthy!

But aren't hovercraft classed as aircraft?

Just imagine the lawyers rubbing their hands thinking of all the dosh coming their way arguing whether Air Traffic regs, Road Traffic Act or Int Regs for Prevention of Collision at Sea prevail?

OK it's Friday I'll get my coat.......
