I currently own an 1989 S2 wich I love to death, however I hanker for something more modern looking......
been advised against chimp as being hmmm... best to say as un involved dring in comparison to the S ( by current chimp owners... not people having to down grade)

Anyone here who has driven both "s" n griff... true opinions please.

I ask cos on a test drive i will be impressed by V8 roar etc... but i want to know about long term driving sensation

I had an S3 for 4 years and absolutely loved it, great car. I always thought it could do with a little extra power tho - the Griff certainly provides that and the kindda TVR performance you'd expect. The Griff is alot more slippery in the wet so beware.

Both cars have been used for good weather and weekend driving and both have been fairly reliable (touch wood).

As for regrets, none, I will be keeping my Griff for a little while yet.

I had an S2 many years ago. Loved the noise (although not as much as the V8). Found it awkward getting in and out, as the doors were not as long as the S3/4 and found the roof a pain to fit in comparison to the Griff. It also leaked, where the Griff doesn't (not to say no Griff leaks).

Also I find the Griff much more practical in terms of boot capacity and cabin space, and the S2 used to squat so much it would touch down the exhaust pipes under hard acceleration.

Also the Griff is finished much better in comparison, is a later design, is a classic, and you know that you are driving the pinnacle of Rover V8 development.

I hope this helps.

I know how your are feeling!!

I am fortunate to have an S2 and a Griff500,but although the Griff is perhaps one of the fastest vehicles on the road,it doesn't quite have the idiosyncratic charm the S has.

Of all the vehicles I own,I think the S is my favourite, even though it's no where near the quickest.

You might regret it if you sell it,they are getting to be a rare car these days.

Maybe you should keep it AND buy the Griff, then you won't be torn into making a descision.
PS If I was to email 3 pics of the S to a fellow PHer,could they help put them on my profile?Buy you a pie and pint!

Set your self up an account at photobucket.com It’s free, I think much easier than Fotango and the pictures are bigger.

Once up and running up load your picture to the site (follow their instructions) and then copy and paste the address of these either into your profile or directly into a post.

It really is not than difficult, you just need to try it a few times till the penny drops. Even I got it sussed eventually.

Cheers,

Simon.

I too had a 1989 S2 for 3 years - moved to a 4.3 Griff in March 03 - never regretted it - but Mrs M thinks the colour (Formula Red) is "vulgar"! I think it's wonderful.

The S2 was great but the Griff is wonderful!

How about a V8s as a compromise.
