EGR Valve Woes (AGAIN)
Discussion
This is on a Mondeo ST 220 TDCi. Had my first EGR Valve go at around 40-450k miles, this time around it's gone at 76k. Had my usually good local garage price it up, at first he was coming in with £300+ but it ended up costing me £200 & for the life of me I can't remember how much it cost last time.
After it was fixed it was only a matter of 5 miles before the light came back on. Then the next day it was on most of the time as usual. Took it back, he says the fault in prints into the memory so it needs resetting a few times & that I should just pop in for a reset if/when it happens. Sure enough it came back on again 10 miles later.
How much do people usually pay?
Is this "in print" normal behavior?
Thanks

That what I thought & said. Apparently not though.
A big thanks for the offer but I'm way up North than you. The garage is only around the corner so it'll be a case of him doing it for a few days before having to replace the part at a guess. However, this morning it was only the Coil light that was on where as usually the Engine light is also on.

Those prices are silly! I paid £80 for new EGR valve and fitted it myself in 10mins (ST Tdci)
The light will still come on after if not cleared properly. Mine also registered EML & glow plug light after I fitted, but a quick trip to my local garage, cleared the codes for free and hasn't come back since.

£200 this time!! As said approx £80 for a replacement and 50p for gasket, and minutes to fit.
My previous vehicle (petrol and not a Ford) had an EGR, and they lasted approx 9,000 miles. It was the first vehicle I had with such a device and I'm ready to admit that it took me a while to locate the problem of hesitation, stalling and difficullty to start. Since sticking open didn't result in an error code (other than secondary codes due to misfiring etc. But of course, they had no connection with the faulty part whatsoever), and initally thought it might be throttle pedal sensor. But it checked out okay with an ohmmeter, and what's more, since it consists of two pots in opposition it was hardly likely to be one with no error code. Anyway, eventually twigged that it was this EGR valve thingy.
And also twigged that the irrelevant error code business for an open EGR must be a nice little earner for garages!
