That has put an end to the speculation then... for a year anyway.

Good. I like him as a driver. He has handled adversity with dignity and courage. Losing the WDC at the last gasp then nearly being killed at the wheel.

Also he is one of the fastest of the current F1 driver once he gets into his comfort zone. I am sure that when he leaves Ferrari he will have no problem getting another seat.

Yeah, he gets on my tits and I'd like to see him gone.

HOWEVER... his recent even more mediocre than usual form has clearly been caused by the accident, and I'd never wish someone to be driven out of a sport because of a life-threatening injury like he had.

I'm pleased he's getting back to his previous level, and I'm glad he's being given another year to go out on a high.

Hmm, I was in the camp that said he should go.

But to be fair to him, I think he was hit by a perfect storm of confidence, tyre changes and one of the top 2 drivers in the world - certainly the most rounded - as his team mate.

His last few drives and his attitude have earned him another year I think, in balance. Given the other options, I think Ferrari made the right call for 2013.

A pattern over the past couple of seasons - mediocrity for the first half of the season and then once Motezuma gives him that metaphorical kick up the backside, all of a sudden he puts in good performances. I can't help but feel that they should have taken a chance on Alguersuari.

Presumably a condition of him staying is that Smedley stays on to tuck him in at night with a story

Hmm- looks like I am not the only one irritated by the blokespeak exchanges from Mr Smedley and others. Alwsys makes me cringe when I hear - 'Keep it up mate, push next lap and the one after. Fast as you can mate'etc. Like to think how one J Hunt or G Hill would have responded ' F** off, will you? Who's the f**ing driver here? And I'm not your bloody mate you oik'

Not sure what it is about him, but I find Smedley properly cringeworthy.

Rather pleased for him in some respects but I just feel sorry for him that he's always going to be a number 2 driver.

There is a reason he will always be a no.2. Just like many other drivers, they are good and on certain days very fast, but they are not great.

Barrichello, coulthard, Irvine, webber, massa are prime no.2 examples.

Though I loved irvines attitude;
'so eddie, will you be fighting Michael (schumacher) this year for the title'...
'are you kidding! have you seen that guy driving. No, but I'll certainly do my best to help him get the title'.

True, the only person I've had do that to me over the radio is Gary Ayles, and he only did it because he knew it fked me off spectacularly and would garner a red mist induced overtake or increase in speed

Whereas as Massa will then proceed on his Sunday drive feeling all warm and fuzzy inside because someone loves him. cloud9
