Discussion
Does anyone remember the NSA events at Esholt estate near Bradford. This was a sewage works with an undulating track with 2 ropes separating the bikes from the crowd. I am currently putting together a file of photos, programme covers and newspaper cuttings to publish on one or more of this site, ukdrn and the acceleration archive. Particular memories are of the transit van used for starting the bikes on rollers, the Nitro burning Triumphs and Pip Highams very quick GSX.
As Barry said, the appropriate forum to discuss this would be the UKDRN. I have 6 programmes from Esholt from 1967-1997 which I can scan if you wish. I can also give you dates of sprint meetings at Esholt from 1964 onwards. BTW, the first meetings at Esholt were organised by the Bradford & District Motor Club, then they were organised by that club in conjunction with the NSA, and finally, just by the NSA.

Any info would be greatif you want to pm me. I have some photos to scan as well and when I get this done I will post it on the UKDRN site. I got the stuff together a while ago but struggled to identify some of the riders/machines and the years.Would that be here then?

Yes, the track was on The Avenue and the shut down area was an uphill stretch with a sharp bend at the end of it and a gate which 1 rider went straight through. I will be scanning the press report of the incident and I have a photo of the rider being 'coached' on the startline.
So not quite where I thought (St Paul's Wood)... Was the event run in a (vaguely) northerly direction or southerly? What I mean was, did the vehicles run towards the north or the south? As both major tracks in the UK are in a basically North East to South West direction with SPR running that way and SCR towards the North East I wondered whether any of the competitors found things any different? I know that when I go to SCR my left ear gets burnt whilst at SPR my right one does (sitting mainly on the bank during the day)... of course that is when the sun shines...

Give me a mo' I'll need to dig them out and scan them.Esholt was across the road from school - we'd go and watch. Pip's bike was one of the attractions for me after reading about it in Superbike.
The runs were south on The Avenue with the slow down going up the rise just before the railway.

If you look at the map the track ran towards the Apperley Bridge area where there is a main road into Bradford. The course ran left to right as you look at it.
Not in this shot it doesn't (The Avenue that is)...
hence my north/south comments...
