Hi All,

I'm pretty sure that I need new cats for the car. I've been driving around with an engine code indicating they are flowing poorly for 18 months and now the car is starting to misfire when accelerating from 4K revs upwards. I suspect the cats are either becoming too blocked or possibly collapsing.

So... with the price of replacing the cats being quoted at £1600 by my dealer I'm considering the performance route, although I understand there may be issues around being allowed to use non-OEM catts for a car this young.

Can anyone recommend a decent guy in Berkshire/Reading/Heathrow area that could advise on being able to upgrade the cats and possible exhaust?

Cheers.

Got the same issue with my STR and and putting off fixing it, as, other than the engine management light, nothing is wrong, it passed its MOT emissions.
The fault is quite well detailed online.
If it is the same fault as mine the codes will be PO420 (one cat) PO430 (the other cat)
I believe i read that its worth changing the sensors in the exhaust first.
If it does some to replacing cats then i know Milltek do a performance cat for the STR, i dont know about the XJR

Cheers Norman, I'm back off to them later to get an air flow sensor replaced to see if that cures it before the cats.

I have my suspicions the cats will still need doing. But fair play to them, the computer throws up an air flow sensor error which could be causing the same symptons and is the cheaper option first.

Almost a shame really, as I quite fancied getting some performance cats fitted. smile

I'm sure they would fit them if you insisted

Cats on order now. I suspect the car is going to feel like a new car when they're fitted as I'm having serious power loss as the revs climb.

The other morning, myself and an Audi TT Sport (or something like that) went for it from the lights. I got the jump on him but I just couldn't accelerate as I ran out of puff , he went passed me like I was standing still! laugh
