Just been out in car, applied handbrake and got an almighty crack from the centre armrest area. The handbrake works, but now the bottom 2" of travel are disengaged/floppy, so I guess some part of the ratchet system has broken?

Anyone else had this?

Well, if ever there was a case for having the OPC warranty, this is a good example.

Handbrake ratchet (plastic!!) has broken, requiring a complete new handbrake assembly, including the suede bit - has to come from Motorsport, so 6 weeks delivery.

The price, fitted I have been told is......wait for it.......1,000 GBP !!!!!!

I would like to see Warranty Wise cough that up without an argument?

Surely you can secure one from breakers for a far more reasonable cost.

The OP has a warranty so why bother?

I'm sure Charles Trent the breakers has one on eBay at the moment. Strip out can take a bit of time but it is a reasonably straight forward job.

Jeez, can't they even make reliable handbrakes?
