This is probably in wrong place so feel free to move it. Over the last few months both my parent have been diagnosed with cancer, mum breast and dad prostate. While mum's prognosis is good, dad's had unfortunately spread into the hip and so it is a case of control rather than cure.

The issue is that they have family in Canada they would like to visit plus makes some other overseas trips. They have tried for travel insurance at a few places and got turned down. Does anyone know of a specialist insurer that would cover them? Thanks

They tried Saga but they didn't like the sound of the existing conditions. Thanks CB will give them a call to see what they say. I think the price is gonna scare me!

Just tried to PM you but can't - I have a document with a list of 'cancer friendly' insurers which you may find useful. If you PM me I'll reply and send it.

Sunworld (above) were able to quote me via insurance choice - I'm in your Dad's state, treatable for now but now curable - and I'd also recommend insurecancer - they go on an individual basis rather than a generic questionaire as everyone else does - be prepared to answer same set of questions over and over!

Things which will affect the quote most I've found are use of strong painkillers (controlled drugs such as morphine), number of treatments undergoing, number of times you've seen oncologist in last year, time since diagnosis. Your Dad's not terminal yet by sounds of it, so make sure he doesn't say he is - he may think of himself as such but while he's treatable he's not.

Prepare for a shock tho - the only quote I could get for 2 weeks in Mexico at Xmas was 12K(!), and even Europe is about £3/4K, due to frequency I see onc and on multiple treatments - and I'm nowhere near 60 yet!

Try www.allcleartravel.co.uk for some quotes.

They'll get quotes from different suppliers for this situation.
Best of luck to your parents with everything.

Thanks Nina and very sorry to hear about your own illness. They have phoned around a bit and got some silly quotes so are going to wait until next year. Mum starts her chemo next week before heptecin (sp?) so will probably not feel like doing much. Good point with Dad as although his cancer cannot be cured it is controlled for now and his PSA levels are normal so he should probably tell them that.
