Recenlty this year I stepped up the training to 13-14 hours a week. I do 6 days with 1 day rest day (in which I do core training like planks etc). This isnt all the time, as I was only doing around 8 hours, depends on the weather and motivation I suppose smile

I spend about 6-7 hours a week on a train...

The TV's probably on about 4 hours a day, but it doesn't necessarily mean anyone's watching it.

Not as many as I really should I guess. But the OH and I both work long hours, and I wouldn't want to spend too much time training that we could spend together e.g. evenings.

I consider myself lucky if I get 5 hours a week on the bike and the majority of that will be at weekends. I should do more but it would mean dragging myself out of bed at around 4:30 each morning sleep

The hours that you do is not so important, it's what you do within those hours, I know guys who race really quite well on 5-6 hrs / week, but they train very hard in the time they can spare.

I normally do around 12-15 hrs a week, but i like riding my bike, so my riding is a mixture of intensive / tempo / recovery / pottering about even sometimes ;-)

Talking *training* hours Bob, as in hard graft not general pottering

TV? not turned mine on in 2012 (although I do watch bits on the PC)

This is what scuppers me.. Do plenty of hours on the bike, but mostly commuting.. The turbo should help things along nicely though!

LOL ok so I would do 12 hrs 'real' training and 3 hrs 'pottering' / week if it's broken down, then race at the weekend ;-)

What are you doing for 12 hours? That's a long time to be riding at tempo/threshold/vo2 etc, or do you include recovery rides in that?

When I set the turbo up I'll be doing a good mix of stuff but just can't think is be able to do 10 hours of hard training per week, last week I did 8 hours and was at 600+ TSS, not sure I'd have time for more...

What is your coach recommending for FTP building skr? I've seen a lot of talk about sweet spot stuff and not bother trainig at threshold all that much...?

I think a lot of folk say "training" & actually mean "riding the bike".

Me...10hrs a week, about 7 hours riding, 3 "training". Intensity alters but volume stays about the same as the year passes.

OKGO -

SST/Speed/Power/VO2max/tempo and endurance etc and the odd test, it changes per block tho.

Around 10 hours training, i don't ride the bike for fun, i fk the wife for fun hehe

It's not much really..

4-5 hours in week, 2-3 sat and 3-4 Sunday so 10-12 hours is easy to fit in.

Don't have a coach mate, just go on past experience and 'feel', but I've got some knee breaker circuits that just make you work hard automatically, 3-4 hrs duration 3 times a week, it's hard to get them done initially but with 2 days recovery I can eventually do these blocks of work ok. I feel that once you've built up some 'depth' to your training you can start to work at specifics. I know some guys riding for top Breton teams doing 24 hrs / week in Jan / Feb.
Endurance work on the turbo is not a good idea, intervals ok, but 1hr max rides is all I do on the turbo these days, I'd rather go out in the wet stuff.
By the way, currently approaching the end of a 3 week break from the bike, should start again on Saurday with a 25 mile steady ride, next season starts in April for me and I hate to be going well in March ;-)

A good training week for me at this time of the year would be about 10hrs, made up of:
2x 3hr rides at the weekend – but will shorten these is the weather is really grim!
1x 2hr weeknight club run
2x 1hr turbo sessions
During the summer this will increase slightly as the turbo sessions tend to be substituted with another road ride.
Equally it will be reduced / tapered down if I have an event coming up.
Don’t own a power meter yet ( waiting till Garmin release the Vector ) so all my training is currently done to heart rate, aiming for an avg. at the end of the session of about 85% max bpm.
It’s not the most scientific training schedule and I am sure a decent coach could suggest something much more effective – and probably less time consuming, but I seem to do ok.

2 x cyclocross races @ 1 hour
1 rollers session @ 1/2 hour
1 roller session @ 3/4 hour

3 1/4 hours this week.

Television, 1/2 for university challenge and that was watched on iplayer so it fitted into when I had time to watch it.
