I have read countless times on here, that 390's were registered as 3.5...My logbook states 3905cc with the NCK engine number...Am I confused? wobble

I used to own a 450SE that was registered as a 3.5cc. I had to take the car to a TVR main agent to have it verified as a 450 and then wrote to DVLA and had it changed to the correct cc once a covering letter was supplied by the TVR agent. It seems that most V8 wedges were registered as a 3.5 irrelevant of what they were from new. It's only after the owners would write in and have them changed. Some owners it seems never bothered.

Yes, IIRC, my old 350, 390 and 450 were all originally registered with 3500cc engines. I got one changed but can't remember which!

Same with mine, the car that was sold was a 350i but with a 390SE option pack.

Both of my (S2) 390SEs had the correct model name and NCK engine size on the Registration doc.
Maybe they had been corrected from the originals. smile

Well it wasn't the 450 David

That still states 3.5

Surely this all to due to TVR not wanting to pay for different classifications for all the versions of the car.

No never penny pinching LOL...just the barest minimum to cover the legal side of any a facet of any part of the business, the old TVR business evolved/bumbled along using/being allowed to use historic precedents to get to the then current legal build points.
