Hi all,
Quick question, when the engine is cold should the extra air valve be fully open ie if taken off you should be able to see right through it ?
Having just read honestjohn's info it appears so?
If so then I need a new one as the disk jobby inside it is virtually closed ie a small aperture !!!
Thanks
Regards
Ian

You can't see 'right' through it, there should be a slot in the disc that gets wider to one end/side. Put it in the oven at 80 degrees for half an hour and it should close up, then gradually open as it cools. In fact even a hot air gun/ wife's hairdryer should do it biggrin

ETA: here you go...

Following on my original thread, I'm not sure if my extra air valve is kn*ckered or not ?
When I start it from cold it coughs and farts and it takes about 30 secs or so for the "choke" or would it be the extra air valve to kick in. Could this be a sticky air valve ?
Also it simply wont start now when the engine is warm ???
I have recently replaced the coil with a new one which did help for a while but now it is worse than ever. I have checked CTS, plugs, leads etc etc.
I appreciate it could be a multitude of things but my question is could a kn*ckered air valve be the problem ?
Thanks for all your help
Ian

Hi Ian...If the air valve is anything like that of the 280 then you can clean it by putting your thumb over one end and using a squirt of brake cleaner or carb cleaner..Squirt some in there and then cover both ends and give a gentle shake, repeat a few times..You might be able to get a cotton bud in there to wipe the plate..You can check operarion by gently heating with a heat gun..(Low setting) or a hair drier..keep an eye on the hole/plate..When it has closed either let it cool down or wrap in a piece of kitchen towel and place in the fridge..It should open up again..This will test the mechanical but it should be checked for electrical but im not sure about that bit..Sorry..Also i dont think it would effect starting when the engine is warm..That could be a multitude of other things..Ziga

The valve should be shut when the engine is warm.

When the engine is warm block one of the pipes to it and the corresponding port on the valve and see if it now starts OK. I suspect you still will have problems but if you don't it would indicate the problem is with the valve.
