One of my customers in my catering supplies business owns one of these De Tomasso Pantera GTS in right hand drive and has been standing outside the front of his house for many years, neglected. Every time I see him he says he wants to sell it but he still hasn't given me a price. Its immaculate inside and he says its fine mechanically but needs a lot of body work. What a car though. If I ever manage to buy it off him my 400SE will have to go along with a few other things(but not my nuts!). I would need all the cash I can lay my hands on to get that back on the road.Tony. TCB.
A close friend of mine replaced his Ferrari Dino with a Pantera, back in the seventies.
Bored with that he got a Maserati Bora (scuse pun) and then after that a Fezzer 308 GTB (fibreglass body) with matching plate...all new cars, followed by a Porsche 911/930 Turbo (?) Flatnose.
It was always a pleasure being given a lift to the pub or club.

Dix,
I know that car well.
That De Tomaso is one of the last six cars made. Story goes that in 1986 Alexandro De Tomaso had six Longchamp shells left and was waiting for deposits before producing the final six cars - to the customers spec. Remember, these cars were pretty much bespoke with regards exterior paint and interior colour. Ric Lee, the current chairman of the DT Drivers Club UK ordered two Longchamps, like the other four all were the wide bodied GTS model. In fact these last six were designated GTSE and had the full option list fitted as standard. Ric, after registering both cars on UK plates sent one back to DT for conversion into a spyder as the latter were never type approved AFAIK for sale on the UK market;
Ric's ragtop which still lives locally to me in Chelsea:

The red car was not so long ago restored after suffering a deal of Italian tin worm. IMO the colour, a Maserati red really does not suit these large coupe's, one needs a more subdued colour - like mine, one of the Aston shades of metallic grey.
Jonny,
You do not want the Maserati equivalent, (DT owned Maserati around this time) the Quattroporte 3, no wide bodied versions (so you look like a woman) and a highly tempramental Maserati V8 of that era. The DT fitted his own cars with the American Ford 351ci (5.8L Cleveland) arguably Fords best which was originally designed for Nascar racing - the reason for the thin walls to minimise weight.
The pantera's listed above are worlds apart, that 72 has the aweful US federal bumpers that are not supposed to kill you at 5mph, that later wide bodies Pantera GT5S is a far better car IMO but towards the end DT & Ford USA ran out of Cleveland V8's and fitted the less powerful Windsor albeit of the same 5.8L capacity.

DT & TVR share one thing in common - you can hear them before you see them

Phil you know that I have said this before, but that lonchamps is the best looking car I have ever seen. I grew up pining after a pantera all because of a pack of top trumps I had. Changed my mind straight away when I first seen the lonchamp perfect from every angle. You lucky devil you.

That's what I thought Dix when I first came across one in a car park in Lincoln's Inn, Temple, where all the big shot barristers have their chambers.
I later contacted the club and they put me in touch with the owner, a top lawyer living in Barnet, Herts, that owned two Longchamp GTS's at the time - greedy bugger.
In the days of letters I wrote to him asking if I could visit to look over the car and take photo's. He invited me up and took me out on a grand tour of the locality.
I was smitten and a couple of years later after placing a "Wanted" ad on eBay made up of a collage of GTS images I found on the web I was offered three, a RHD car in Sydney, Australia, and a couple of cack handers in Paris, France & Antwerp, Belgium.
The Belgian guy said if I decided to come see his car I would not wish to travel back to blighty without it due to the good condition opf his car and at fairly reasonable money £11K in around 2005.
I drove it back on the Belgian plates via Calais with the 3-sp auto box going south on my way through Kent due to lack of fluid - an expensive excersize. My fault for not checking all the fluid level before leaving Belgium.
When both my cars are back on the road I think I will be forced into selling one as I really cannot afford to keep both but not in a desperate situation at present but I don't believe in not using these cars on a regular basis and one will be more than enough, DT or TVR.
In that previous link I posted I just came across this two tone German car which I really like the look of:

How can you not like that?
Mine now has 425 horses and a 5-sp with a very wide power band peaking at 412 torques.

I love DT's - they are so agressively beautiful!
I recently bought a Maserati 222SE which is of course from the years when Detomaso owned Maserati. Finally got it fixed (long story of driving it home after buying it and realising that it was using as much fuel as oil!) so its had the engine out 3 times already! Don't ask...!
Anyhow, it like Lotus / TVR or the time doing a copy paste with out wedges - look below!
OK i know it isnt anywhere near as cool as the Longchamp but I think it looks like a cousin at least!
