Audi TT Roll Hoops

I have acquired a pair of Audi TT roll over hoops and I am considering fitting them to my S1. The inner end shouldn't be much of a problem, but the outer end needs to go through the body work just inboard of the top seat belt mount.
Any thoughts as to the wisdom of drilling a 2 inch hole just inboard of the top seat belt mount?

Rather depends on whether its for safety or bling. If your expecting it to work then you need a solid area of the chassis to fix it to and a method of fixing. More detail and a photo would be useful.

I was thinking of both bling and safety. My plan was to drill through the body work and make a bracket to weld on to the suspension strut.

There isn't any chassis there the top seat belt mounts are glassed in, unless you are thinking of going down to the outrigger and we know how sturdy they can be

I was going to use the suspension upright that the top of the rear shock absorber mounts to, working on the principle that in the worst case, if any pressure is on the roll over hoop, there won't be any on the wheels!

That might work,I noticed the Audi TT hoops don't have any rear support bars, I would think they would need some support unless you are going to use them as bling.

My advise is to fix them to support, and ALWAYS use them as bling!!

When I bought my MX-5 the dealer tried to flog me the roll hoops. When I asked if they were "proper" roll hoops he assured me they were. Asked him to show me a set and they were held by M8 or M6 bolts...

That's ok, about 72 of them should be enough.
Need to be big flanges though
