You know how it goes, a few glasses of wine, a moment's distraction and you've suddenly bought something from a well known auction site.

In this case I've bought a Micromega Logic CD player, for the grand sum of £16. I know nothing about these, other than I believe they were quite expensive in their day. Does anybody know anything about these units? There seems to be very little on the web.

Has anybody done anything similar? Any pleasant surprises had?

I had one, lovely warm sound. They`re french, and they had a great upgrade path as far as I can remember. respond well to clocking as well.

Good players, tricky to get spares for but at 16 of your earth pounds, can't go wrong

I have one of their Stage players, and it sounds very nice.

Basically a re-badged and suped-up Philips by the looks of things. I always liked the look of their 'Stage 4' players, they were nice minimalist brushed metal things smile

It is now collected and in situ. It's in pretty clean condition and everything seems to work, although buttons in French are a touch confusing.

Sound wise I'd say it will take a bit of getting used to after my last Pioneer player + Dacmagic. I wouldn't exactly describe it as warm (but then I listen to a lot of vinyl), but it is very detailed and spacious. Voices seem very clear.

I love the fact that is from a similar era to my amp (old Exposure gear) - it's proper ugly hifi!

Paying only £16 has absolutely nothing to do with the players performance/capability. Micromega's Trio was state of the art player back in the day and their logic was also very well regardeded player when new.

Well finding out is part of the fun, isn't it? There's a chance I might quite like it. TBH that in itself is worth the £16 to me.

In their day - a stunning piece of kit! Partnered with a neutral amp and some nice lean speakers it should be a delight of £16!!!! biggrin

It is currently partnered with a slightly lean amp (Exposure 7 pre and 8 power) and some fairly neutral ProAc speakers, and does indeed sound delightful.

£16 well spent! smile

A nice set up! Funnily enough - when I said "lean amp" - I was thinking of an Exposure or an Audiolab! biggrin

Thanks, as you can gather I'm pretty pleased with it. Exposures were another second hand bargain a few years ago, although cost rather more than the Micromega!

Je ne regrette rien indeed.

Nice to see some proper kit. Is that a Michell? Mate of mine had a tweaked gyro-dec - awesome bit of kit, both in engineering terms and sound quality.

It is indeed sir, a Gyro SE. It sounds marvellous, but I'd be happy just to sit and watch the weights go round smile
