Fecking dishonest Ebayers!
Discussion
Bought myself an Impreza Turbo off the bay a couple of weeks ago - took it for an MOT retest today and actually gave it some beans for the first time, and after a few miles I realised that the bloody engine is shagged!
Sounds like either big or little end failure to me - the MOT guy reckons big ends anyway.
The seller did a decent advert on Ebay, with plenty of pictures and description, and had owned the car for over 10 years, and detailed pretty much everything that needed attention on the car - apart from the fact the engine was f
ked!
Oh well, we live and learn I suppose!
(I suppose I could be doing the guy a disservice, but the chances of the engine expiring in the 60 miles I've had it are fairly remote!)

eBay doesn't really come into it here, as it could have equally been sold on this very website! It's sold as seen unfortunately and some faults cannot be detected on a test drive / inspection.
I once bought a vw polo which promptly stopped working the next day. Then there's the gti6 I bought which blew up on the way home!
Some you win, some you lose

Buying a car, unseen, off eBay...
Always likely to end in tears.
Bought a 306 Rallye on eBay. Did 10k and a few trackdays, sold instantly. Total cost £0, including insurance and all tracktime.Always likely to end in tears.
When I went to pick it up I said that I was here to buy it if it was as described, not to piss about, guy was happy for me to take it for a quick spin, to make sure the engine worked and that was that.

Sorry but you should notice a shagged engine easily enough, did you not test drive it?
Quiet as a mouse when I picked it up. Cold, obviously! I think it probably had the beginnings of it when I bought it, and me getting it warm for the emissions test finished it off.
I'd certainly normally spot a shagged engine, without doubt.
ETA I'll not be contacting the vendor - I'm a big boy and will take my medicine!
What goes around, comes around in any case.

Could also have been sold in good faith with the vendor genuinely not knowing the engine was shagged; it's amazing how crap some people can be.
+1It needed a couple of tyres and rear brakes - not the end of the world.

OP, you bought a car from (I assume) a private seller. You have no apparent basis to infer dishonesty. If you wanted a car with a warranty, you could have bought one from a dealer.
Omission isn't necessarily dishonesty... Did he say that the the bearings weren't f@cked.I purchased an e30 touring from this site a few years back, had it 2 weeks and the cylinder head shat itself ,
Took me some time to find a good head and cost me a lot of money time and hassle which I didn't really account for,
But these things happen sometimes,
Feel for the op it's a crap situation but
Sometimes you just have to take it on the chin and carry on, hope you get it all sorted the only good outcome is that when its fixed you'll have a good engine that you no will be good,

Or is that dishonest?

Sounds about right. Owns for 10years, engine showing signs of bearing failure, sell on ebay. Shouldn't be too expensive to fix mind. Could be an excuse to up the power a bit
