I have a Phoenix with 13" wheels and a small front splitter and it is very difficult to open the bonnet more than 45 deg without using a jack to lift the car. So...can anyone think of a rising hinge that would fit a Phoenix/Fury type of body? I'd like to run a full width proper splitter if I can still open the bonnet.

Thoughts?

Bit of lateral thinking: why not simply make the splitter REMOVABLE - you'd get the aerodynamic benefits yet be able to keep the existing bonnet/hinge arrangement?

Jeff,

Southco.co.uk has lots of hinge options that might suit.

If you look on the Sylva google groups (search BMW boot hinges) it was mentioned there a while back.
Also look on the Stylus pages as Rob has revised his hinges.

Alternatively make the whole bonnet removeable - I'm assuming it's not too heavy? just need to put a plug to the headlight wiring.

Quick release lighting plug and make the whole bonnet removable. The old Phoenix we used to have, hinged forward and then by removing two r pins at the front, the whole bonnet would slide off. Much better for access to front suspension, radiator etc.

Actually it is heavy and needs two people to lift it off. Not very useful when you are on your own.

Raw engineering hinge the bonnet on their version of the Phoenix at the rear, not sure how well it works though.
