Cockpit security door

I thought the idea of these cockpit security doors that were put in all planes after 9/11 was that they stay permanently closed come what may throughout the whole journey.

Only ask because I saw one of the flight attendants go into the cockpit on a flight yesterday.

One of the flight attendants takes a bed-pan into the flight deck when one of the flight crew wakes up and feels the need to answer the call of nature, obviously.

Not just for the toilet chaps. Those pilots need food and drinks brought in too.

Our 747's have 2 cameras so the pilots can see who's at the door. Dont know about other airlines/aircraft

So what's the point then? Any nasty terriers on board just need to wait till the door is unlocked.

(And I hadn't thought about the toilet thing, suppose I thought they had one in there, or maybe pee'd out the window or something... )

We have 3 cameras to keep an eye on things, so if your sat on row 2, picking your nose - yes, we can see you!! Big Brother lives at 36,000 feet too these days!
As for food, I usually take my own as the supplied crew food is utter $#!%£!!

But I'm not prepared to pee in a bottle!

Re food and pilots, do they have to have different meals to each other in case one meal is "off" or is it just an old wives tale?.

Do they choose from the same menu as the passengers or have something different.

I always assumed it was just picked off the passenger menu.

Frozen for months and microwaved in minutes... mmmm

At our Airline, we have seperate 'crew-food' of which the quality (and amount) has continuously reduced over the last few years to the point where most people bring in their own ready meals, sandwiches etc. Yes the two pilots are supposed to eat different meals just in case! The passenger meals are usualy of a better quality than the crew options (believe it or not) and are sometimes offered to the flight crew if there are some spare.

There have been several cases of crew bringing Curry or Soup through security and having it confiscated as it's a bit to 'liquidy'!! One guy was told he couldn't bring his yogurt through, so he opened the lid, drank it and said 'can I bring it through now?'!!

But don't get me started on airport security!!

Yup. Was talking to a pilot recently who was lamenting the fact that even if he had his family on board, he couldn't allow his son onto the flight deck any more.

You're not allowed to visit Incase you're a terrorist. The hosties can go in because they have an airport ID and are assumed to not be terrorists. The pilots look at the camera view before they open the door using a switch inside the cockpit to make sure it's a hostie and not terrorists trying to get in.

If you were minded to you could wait in a seat near the flightdeck door until the hostess opens it and then boom you are in. Of course if there is a sky marshall sitting behind you there would be a second boom and you would be out.
