fitting a fuel gauge to my split

hey guys
want to fit a fuel gauge to my 1958 vw splitty van (US import)as it was never fitted with one.
how do i go about it? did later splits have fuel gauges i can use?
any help would be great

Easy Make hole in top of petrol tank, Attach Cork to metal rod and run this via a few joints to gauge on Dash board, as cork floats on petrol it goes up and down so moving gauge up or down. There you are Job done laugh

For the young one's reading this, Thats how its done on my 1964 Karmann Ghia !!!
