Ferrari conversion...why?

At the end of the day it's still a proper Ferrari with real Ferrari, engine, running gear and accompanying documentation.

IIRC this was a very big thing in the 1980s and many 250 GTO's replicas/recreations were based on similar vintage V12s of the day.

Why not ? It's still a ferrari albeit a bespoke one and no mr2s died in the making of it .

I have to agree with Op, a total waste of a nice ferrari, I could see the point of using a rotten car to build a relica from, but not a nice original car like that.

I'm sure we would all like the genuine article but, with so few of the original cars available? The chap is a petrol-head and, at least he uses the car as a daily driver, which gives folk a chance to see what is usually kept under lock-and-key.

When I see replicas like that I always think of the chapter in Frankenstein where Victor Frankenstein finally brings his creation to life, and realises that what he's created, far from being a thing of beauty, is actually a clumsily executed, hideous, grotesque caricature of a human.

I might be derisive if it had a wheezy 4 cylinder in it, but it's got a proper Ferrari V12.

Not sure I understand this. The converted car looks exactly like a 250 GTO and I wouldn't mind betting most enthusiasts would struggle to tell the difference.

Are you suggesting that the owners of genuine GTOs have no taste either?

No. I'm suggesting that to imagine that a fake 250 is nicer than a real 330GT lacks taste. But it's just my opinion.
