Royal blue loved by Brits - why?

Compared to Germany, there are a lot of "royal blue" (=metallic dark blue, a tad lighter than the deep non-metallic Westminster blue like old Jags/Bentleys) cars in the UK.

In a 456 thread on PH there was also a great apprectation for the royal blue/biscuit combo.

Is it because it stands out so nicely against both the grey SW/W buildings and the countryside?

I like the blue colours on any car, I almost find it to be a choice of I want to be different but not attract too much attention. I chose 'Sporting blue' for my dad when I ordered his Seat Leon for him (don't ask why I sorted it long story) and I'm a bit jealous I didn't get one my self now!

On a personal note - I LOVE royal blue, as it is much richer and deeper than black or grey.

It still think it is something genuinely British.

Over here, all exec-level cars (7/A8/S500) are black. Noone would dare to have one of them in burgundy, another colour you see very often in SW1-3.

One of my favourite colours for cars (well, any blue really except flat non metallic dark blue).

As I have found with my Golf and seen on others though, along with black it is probably the colour that shows paint swirls, scratches and imperfections the most!

Of the 9 cars I've owned 5 of them were blue. I think it's just because I like the colour blue rather than anything else...

Agreed, it's a classic colour (and classy). I'm picking up an A4 cabriolet next weekend, in dark metallic blue (Moro blue?) with biscuit leather interior. I love it

All three cars in our household are blue,no idea why but curiously I'm perusing the classifieds searching for my next runaround and I'm strangely attracted to only the blue versions of that particular model .....

My favourite colour since childhood has always been red tho....

My Leon is this colour, and I love it, although it's actually quite rare.

i like a nice Tour de France Bleu in the Ferrari GT cars, just like how understated the 456 is
