Fantastic. About time they pulled all the bell ends that sit in the outside lanes. Beats me why they bothered putting 4th lanes on many of our motorways, people don't know how to make use of the lanes we already have

This begs the following question for me.

Let's say it wasn't a police car, and it was me driving behind that chap. If I had made the executive decision to pass the L3 hogger who had brake tested me on the inside, and trafpol spotted me doing that; who would be in more trouble? Me or the hogger?

Depends if you were also in lane 3 I guess. I would have been in lane one, out to 2 to pass the lorry and back to one. I would already have worked out the car in lane 3 was a lane hogging fkwit and would have timed my passing of the lorry so that I wasn't between them. Wouldn't look too good if you went 3,2,3 to take him.

You have a good point though. They need to properly enforce lane discipline

Good point. I'd have probably taken the same approach as you in hindsight, as it would be very unusual for me to be in the outside lane on an empty motorway.

There was once an occasion where I was already in lane 3 to pass someone else and got stuck behind a hogger just afterwards, he brake tested me too so I indicated into lane 2, he saw and moved across to lane 2 (presumably to block me) and I passed him with ease in lane 3. Cue lots of flashing and the V sign.
