which dump valve
Discussion
fitted a piston type, venting to air as availbale on the LEW site.
It does make a bit of noise when changing gear but with some adjustment this only happens at higher boost.
The sound is either something you do or don't like, I personally do like it, and I'm certainly not a Max Power type. Well not anymore
The best bet if unsure about the sound is to fit a recirculating unit. Most units use a seperate pipe to direct the air back to the air box, so you can just leave the pipe off to hear what it sounds like.

I used a recirculating setup with no noise and like it. Its a diaphram BOV which is quiet, no sliding parts, and is less sensitive to mounting position.
check it out if you like http://web.tampabay.rr.com/redrocket
on the site i provided a page with all the part #s, vendors and pricing.
let me know if it helps

Hi dave, i've just bought an S4s on LEW which already has the PUK dump valve. I have to say these are extremely quite IMO. It's not like my last one (Sytec) which litterally turns heads when I changed gear on let my foot off the gas.
I wish I had my old Sytec DV back, I might change the PUK one and buy a Sytec one. MY PUK may be up for grabs if you are interetsed.
Personally I like the psssstt noise. Each to their own...

Half the reason i want one if i'm honest
Question:
The non recirculating Dump valve (of 'Phtisssssh' fame) vents into the engine bay, and i know that car-to-car it will be different,but...
Is there, in time, any noticeable oil/vapour sprayed over the rear of the engine and bulkhead?
I assume so,otherwise why would people fit the catch tanks or the recirculating valves. Or am i wrong here?

I've just sussed why it sounds different in my new Esprit. Apart from them being different makes they have been installed in different places. My last one was installed just after the turbo as this was the only place I could fit it. The S4s is where they all seemed to be fitted, just after the chargecooler.
A recirculating one is pretty easy to fit but it's best to connect the pie back to the air box.
Better idea still, buy a recirculating one and try with or without a pipe. Also you can point the exhaust port down and this would again reduce the noise.
